Abilene

YMCA of Abilene-Redbud Park

Nice YMCA facility that was recently remodeled and updated. There are many hot showers in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms. Private stalls with good pressure and temperatures. Clean and tidy all throughout with a lot of other amenities.

Alanreed

Lake McClellan Campground

Inside of this campground are several lukewarm water showers that are open to all. You do not need to be staying at the campground to use this facility, but there is a small day use fee that you’ll need to pay. Water pressure is good, but it is not heated. Pretty clean place.

Amarillo

Anytime Fitness

Small gym with hot showers available if you purchase a day pass to use the facility. The stalls are private and clean and the staff is super friendly. No time limit and very hot water with great pressure.

Thompson Park Pool

If you buy a day pass to this community pool, you can use the cold water showers to wash up. Wide open and no privacy but it works in a pinch. Outdoor pool so it’s only open during the warmer months. Check their website for closures, or simply give them a call.

Angleton

Love’s Travel Stop

Several spacious showers that are all private with a locking door. Newer facility that seems to be cleaned after each guest is done showering. Towels are complimentary and extras can be had, if asked.

Austin

Barton Springs Municipal Pool

Community swimming pool with many hot showers available. The facility is currently under construction (as of early 2025) but there is a trailer with 8 shower stalls in it. Private and small but it works. Ample hot water and OK pressure. Clean!

Eilers (Deep Eddy) Neighborhood Park

Unique showers located at the swimming pool area in a roofless building with plants all-around. Ample hot water and clean throughout the entire facility.

Beaumont

Love’s Travel Stop

Typical Love’s truck stop with many private shower rooms available. Unlimited hot water, good pressure, very clean. You are allowed to share the room with your partner or family member. Towels are complimentary.

Belton

Stillhouse Park

Although there’s a small fee for vehicle entry, you can use the public shower facility for free. One shower in each of the men’s and women’s restrooms that provides hot water. Not the cleanest, but not that bad either. Closed from October onward and opens back up in March. Give them a call or check their website for specifics.

Big Bend National Park

Rio Grande Village Store

Several private showers with lots of hot water available. Private stalls in the men’s and women’s restrooms that are relatively cleaned, although used quite often. There is no change machine on-site so be sure to have quarters ready before you arrive. Cleaned daily between 8 and 9AM but open all day and night otherwise.

Big Spring

Pilot Travel Center

This is a truck stop with several private shower rooms available to the public. Each room has a toilet, sink, bench/chair, and towel hooks. Cleaned thoroughly after each guest. No time limit, towels are provided and extras are available. As with any Pilot location, you are allowed to share the room with a partner or family member at no additional cost.

Buda

Buda Amphitheater & City Park

Located within the park is a free shower, but it only has cold water. Open stall and not private in a fairly busy park. Clean and nice!

Canyon

Sagebrush Campground

Small rock and concrete building in the center of the campground that has a few private stall, hot water showers available. Free access once you get into the Palo Duro State Park. Moderately clean with ample water pressure.

Comfort

Love’s Travel Stop

Typical Love’s location although this one seems larger than average. The showers are spacious and provide ample hot water without any sort of time limits. Each private shower room is cleaned after each guest is done. Towels provided for free.

Corpus Christi

Collier Pool

Communal hot water showers within both locker rooms. Ample hot water with good pressure, but can be quite busy. No privacy since these are open stall showers.

Corpus Christi Natatorium

In both the men’s and women’s locker rooms are open stall communal showers that are free to use for the general public. Although there is no privacy, you could use them to wash up. Check their website for specifics.

Padre Island National Seashore – Malaquite Visitor Center

Several cold water showers open to the public once you enter the National Seashore. Typically used for rinsing off sand, but you can easily use them to wash up. Each stall is private and has a locking door. Relatively clean and well kept.

Dallas

Moorland Family YMCA at Oak Cliff

Several private shower stalls in the locker rooms. Ample hot water with good pressure in a clean and safe facility.

Deer Park

Love’s Travel Stop

Typical Love’s truck stop with nice private shower rooms for rent. Tiled walls and interior with upgraded fixtures that provide amazing hot water with good pressure. Cleaned after each use. Towels are provided for free.

Denton

Love’s Travel Stop

Just like most Love’s truck stops, this one has many showers that are available to anyone. Private rooms with no time limit and unlimited hot water. Very clean and spacious stalls with complimentary soap and towels.

El Paso

Armijo Swimming Pool

Nice indoor swimming pool with warm water showers available. Water does not get very hot, but it’s acceptable with good pressure. There are a couple of private stalls and a communal shower in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms. Clean facility with friendly employees!

Memorial Swimming Pool

Another community swimming pool with warm water showers. Not entirely hot but it does the trick. Very clean and spacious facility that seems to be well taken care of.

Fritch

Fritch Fortress Campground

Free campground within the Lake Meredith National Recreation Area that has a small building with shower stalls inside of it. Hot water and good pressure but doesn’t seem to be cleaned all that often.

Sanford-Yake Campground

Another great free camping area with free showers for the public. Only 1 out of the 4 showers is reported to be working, and it does not produce very hot water. Not the cleanest or roomiest, but it works for a quick wash-up.

Galveston

Galveston Island State Park Restroom

Once you enter the State Park you have full access to this spacious building with many private shower stalls within. Very hot water that lasts forever with no time limits. Very clean place; super nice!

McGuire-Dent Recreation Center at Menard Park

Three showers in each of the men’s and women’s locker rooms that provides endless hot water with fantastic pressure. Individual private stalls that seem to be cleaned often. Don’t tell them you only want to shower, otherwise they may not let you. It’s better to say that you’re going to use the gym also, or just don’t tell them if they don’t ask.

Houston

Elan #6 Travel Plaza

Three private shower stalls that are said to be free to use if you ask nicely. Each one has a locking door and there is one that’s handicap accessible, so it’s quite spacious. Clean facility with great hot water pressure. Bring your own towel.

Huntsville

Pilot Travel Center

Conveniently located off Exit 118 on Interstate 45 is another Pilot truck stop with many shower rooms available. Open to the public and very private with locking doors. Cleaned after each guest is finished showering. Towels are free to use.

Magnolia Beach

Indianola Beach Park

Recently built restroom building that has an outdoor shower across the road. It’s an open-stall shower with no privacy and cold water, but it works great for a quick wash up.

Monahans

Pilot Travel Center

Conveniently located off of I-20 is another Pilot truck stop with 5 private shower rooms available. The water pressure is great and the temperature is ideal; very hot. Clean facility with towels provided. Guests are able to share the shower with another person, if desired.

Willow Draw Campground

This is a really nice campground that has private showers open to the public. Access to the park is inexpensive, and once you’re in, you can freely use the showers as long as you’d like. The water is hot and the pressure is plentiful. Fairly clean, too!

Pearland

Vic Coppinger Family YMCA

This is a nicely equipped YMCA with several hot showers open for use. If you check-in with the front desk, register, and show your ID, you can have up to 3 free visits per calendar year. Stalls are spacious and private and there’s no time limit on the hot water.

Port Aransas

Port Aransas Community Pool

Nice community pool with many hot showers that can be access for a cheap day pass. Private stalls, no time limits, very clean. Employees are friendly and responsive.

Port Bolivar

Fort Travis Park

Free cold showers inside the small building within Fort Travis Park. A bit old and outdated but it works in a pinch. Not cleaned very often so it may be kind of gross when you enter. Bring your sandals!

San Angelo

South Side Recreation Center

Ask if you can use the facility to only shower and they’ll show you where to go. The women’s locker room has two private stalls while the men’s has one large stall with 8 showerheads in it that provide hot water. Clean and tidy but smaller than average place. Friendly staff!

TruFit Athletic Clubs – Sunset Dr

Several private shower stalls are accessible if you purchase a day pass to use the gym. Clean facility with ample hot water and OK pressure. Very clean!

San Antonio

D.R. Semmes Family YMCA at TriPoint

Decently nice YMCA that allows walk-in guests to access the entire facility for free on their first visit. Very hot water, decent pressure, private stalls, nicely updated. Staff is very friendly and welcoming.

Seguin

Love’s Travel Stop

Just another Love’s truck stop with many showers that are open to the public. Hot water, great pressure, clean and private stalls. Towels are included at no additional cost. Clean facility that’s kept tidy.

Tatum

Martin Creek Lake State Park

Several hot water showers open to the public within Martin Creek Lake State Park. While you do need to pay a small fee to enter the park, once you’re in, you’ll have access to the shower building that are typically used for campers (but anyone can use them). Very clean and private.

Terlingua

Rio Bravo Food Truck

Right next to the food truck are a couple of hot water showers with no time limit. Not always the cleanest but it does the trick.

Toyahvale

Balmorhea State Park

Hot showers open to the public, with a bonus of being able to enjoy the gorgeous natural blue pool. The showers are hot, clean, and provide amazing pressure. Relatively clean.

Van Horn
